ÜBER UNS

WARUM GIBT ES

NOBODYTOLDME?

In a previous life I was a lawyer and worked for a publisher specialised in the legal field.

Because of a long-term stay abroad and three daughters, my strength for research shifted to the topic of nutrition.

In Dubai, it was not only way warmer than expected but it also turned out to be difficult to find proper baby food or even ecological products.

I've always loved cook books, but not the cooking itself. But thanks to various allergies, food intolerances, puberty-related issues, and competitive sports of the children and the dog, I had to go through it.

    And I started cooking.

Nowadays, even just for myself, sometimes. Just because it feels good. And that should be reason enough!

And everything I've learned so far, I'll share - sharing is caring!

xI am Susanne Liedtke, the founder of NOBODYTOLDME. The idea for this platform was born when I myself started going through menopause and was first surprised and then annoyed by how difficult it is to get reasonable information on this important topic. It was clear that something had to change, and quickly. After a relatively short time I decided: If I’m going to tackle this, I’m going to do it properly. That’s why today I dedicate 100% of my time to building this platform. My personal menopausal biography reads like many others: I had as vivid a memory of my mother’s menopause as I had of my puberty or my children’s’, without ever having to worry about my hormones. I first heard the term “perimenopause” when I was 49 years old. Nobody had told me that such a powerful and profound process begins even before the last menstrual period and that menopause is basically the reversal of puberty. I never thought about all that. That something is changing – in my case already in my early 40s – I have already felt that. I just didn’t associate it with the decline in my hormones … the bad sleep, the dry, dull hair, the breaking fingernails, the aching shoulder … What actually happens to our body and to our psyche when the hormones slowly run dry or fluctuate and we exchange one piece of femininity for something else? Something that we do not yet know exactly what it is … I wanted to know more. And everything I read about it online was rather daunting. The variety of opinions were confusing, and the range of products did not appeal to me at all. My friends felt the same way. And that’s why today there is NOBODYTOLDME. I quit my job at Google in order to clean up the taboo of menopause, to educate and to offer products and services that can demonstrably help. So that every woman over 40 doesn’t have to go on this journey alone. Be it to feel better prepared to go to your next doctor’s appointment, to finally find something that helps you fall asleep or simply to better understand what is going on with your body. NOBODYTOLDME about menopause. And that will change now.

xMy name is Lilian. I have recently finished my studies in Psychology and have always been fascinated by how the human body and psyche works. Throughout my studies I gained a deep understanding of the determinants of human behaviour and how we can improve our personal well-being by changing our environment and taking agency of our own actions. Now, I want to use this knowledge as part of NOBODYTOLDME to educate and break the taboo surrounding the topic of menopause, while giving women the space to speak about their experiences and feel heard while doing so.

Mariem really thinks that being aware of ourselves and how to live life in the best way should be the main goal to achieve. This can only happen through a normalizing narrative of our inner and outer world. She considers herself a highly curious person and she likes to discover how women are represented in different fields to gain new perspectives and take a holistic approach towards life.

xHello there, I am Claudia Oltmann, 47 years old and therefore perhaps in menopause, perhaps not. Who knows for sure? When I look at my hairstyle, which looks like it's been fried for too long, I think: Sure. When I ask my doctor about my hormone levels, she says: Nope. I guess that makes me feel like millions of other women. My life revolves around writing: I'm a creative director and writer, I used to write about my IVF experience on the blog Eiertanz and now I'm writing about the next step: Menopause. Shit. But somebody has to do it.
